When Tree Removal Is The Right Call

Removal makes sense when a tree is:

  • Dead, dying, or in rapid decline

  • Structurally unsound from storms, decay, or root damage

  • Leaning toward a home, pool, driveway, or play area

  • Crowding other trees or blocking essential sunlight

  • Interfering with utilities or construction plans

We always start with a practical assessment. If restoration is still possible, we will say so. If not, we outline a safe removal plan and clear pricing.

How We Remove Trees Safely

Our removals follow industry standards and a step-by-step process that protects people and property.

  • Site protection: Ground mats for lawns, plywood for hardscape edges, and clearly marked work zones.

  • Rigging and control: Ropes, blocks, and lowering devices to bring each section down under control.

  • Bucket or crane work: For tight spaces or large trees over structures, we use aerial lifts or a crane to remove sections safely.

  • Clean, careful cutting: Precise cuts that avoid shock loading and prevent collateral damage.

  • Thorough cleanup: Brush chipped on site, logs staged or removed, rake and blower finish.

Permits, Utilities, and Compliance

Many New Jersey towns require a permit for tree removal. We help you understand what your town needs and can assist with paperwork. When branches are near service drops or primary lines, we coordinate with the utility before work begins.

Stump Grinding and Site Restoration

After a tree is removed, we can grind the stump to the depth you prefer and backfill with chips or topsoil. If you plan to replant or lay sod, tell us and we will prep the area to support those plans.

Emergency and Storm Damage Removal

Storms can turn a weak tree into a hazard fast. We provide emergency response for trees on roofs, driveways, and power lines. Safety comes first. We stabilize, remove, and secure the site, then coordinate any follow-up work like tarp, fencing, or temporary access.

What To Expect On The Day Of Service

  1. Crew arrival and safety briefing.

  2. Property walk-through to confirm work plan and protection.

  3. Controlled removal from the top down.

  4. Brush chipping and wood handling.

  5. Final cleanup and walkthrough with you.

You do not have to be home all day. Many clients meet us at the start and return for the final walkthrough.

Pricing: What Affects Cost

Tree removal pricing reflects:

  • Size, species, and health of the tree

  • Location and access for equipment

  • Proximity to structures, fences, pools, and utilities

  • Need for crane service or road closures

  • Stump grinding and debris removal preferences

We provide clear written estimates so there are no surprises.

I cannot recommend Hufnagel enough! It was very important to me to work with a certified arborist for the cherry blossom tree in our front yard. Mike from Hufnagel was quick to reply to my request for an estimate. I was very impressed with his knowledge and plan. There was great communication, and the job was done quickly. I will definitely be using Hufnagel on a going forward basis based on their professionalism and expertise!!

Great experience with these guys! Accurate and honest communication. Great job at a good price. And I did get quotes from other services. Wasn’t here when they did the job, got home and they had left the place immaculate. You can go with these guys, you’re in safe hands!

10/5 stars if I could give it. There’s a reason this business has 5 stars. I’ll share a few reasons why: 1. Consultation was professional and the quote was more than reasonable. No surprises. We had three trees removed and 3 were recommended to be kept. 2. Almost no wait time between clearance to proceed and a crew showing up. 3. Crew was professional. Worked diligently. And most importantly- with a focus on safety. All parts of the tree came down slowly and with anchors. I had sprinkler heads which were identified and not a single one was damaged. 4. Clean up was top notch and not half assed. You could hardly tell there were trees on my property after they were done. Not a single branch left behind and they raked the entirety of the job site BY HAND. One crew member even patched a section of grass that got dented from a log falling. Trees were previously surrounded by square mulch pits. After grinding the stumps, they raked and cleaned the mulch pits back to a presentable fashion. This business deserves every single 5 star review on here.

Mike and his team came and assessed 3 trees in our front yard that were a hazard. Mike recommended removing them as they were leaning towards the house. His team came within a week and promptly and safely removed all three in a day. They grinded the stumps and cleaned up after as well. They were professional and most importantly safe. I’m very happy with the service and would recommend them to anyone needing tree help!

Second time using him and just as good as the first. Super fast, great crew, shows up quickly, gets right to work, and leaves everything clean. Had the stump ground out too and they did a great job. Very happy and would definitely use again.

Mike and his crew showed up today to complete the trimming of a Japanese maple and the tying back of some arborvitae that were damaged from the last bad winter storm we had. The work was done quickly and neatly. I would recommend Hufnagel Tree Service if you are looking for the job done right.

We had a great experience with Hufnagel Tree Service - they are a knowledgeable, timely, and professional group. They are the real and do the proper way of tree trimming, not just shaving off the outer edges leaving you with witches’ brooms. For tree removal, they use ropes and expertise in place of heavy machinery. The team made it look effortless to remove an extremely high, dangerous tree from my property. They also took the time to avoid as many of my garden plants in the vicinity that they safely could, which I greatly appreciated. Their work was beautiful and tidy and they removed all the roots so we can immediately replant. A five star company and team!
